About Churchill War Rooms
Hidden beneath the streets of Westminster lies Churchill War Rooms, the secret headquarters where Churchill and his team made critical decisions that steered the course of World War II. From 1940 to 1945, hundreds of men and women spent thousands of hours here, working tirelessly behind the scenes to support Britain’s war effort.

The museum
The museum features the Cabinet War Rooms, an underground site that served as a British government command centre during World War II, and the Churchill Museum. The latter offers a glimpse into Winston Churchill’s life through a collection of personal and historic artefacts, including a childhood rattle and the flag that draped his coffin at his state funeral.
In the Cabinet War Rooms, guests can look through the lens of history in the preserved Map Room, where books and charts remain just as they were in 1945. Once buzzing with planning, plotting, strategies and secrets, now these spaces remain frozen in time and open to the public to explore.
